Crew-13 Arrives at Kennedy for October Launch

CSA astronaut Joshua Kutryk and the rest of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-13 touched down at Kennedy Space Center yesterday afternoon, marking the final milestone before their launch to the International Space Station next week.

The four-person crew arrived at the Launch and Landing Facility aboard T-38 jets Saturday afternoon under clear skies. NASA astronaut Jessica Watkins, commander of the mission, rode alongside Kutryk, while NASA astronaut Luke Delaney and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov flew in the second jet.

“Arriving here today for us as a crew represents both kind of the culmination and the beginning of a journey for us,” Watkins told reporters after landing. “We’ve been training together as a crew for over a year now, so it is the culmination of all of that work and effort, and we’re so grateful to the teams of experts around the world that have gotten us prepared and ready for this.”

The mission marks Kutryk’s first trip to space, as well as the first spaceflight for Delaney and Teteryatnikov. Watkins is making her second journey to orbit.

Launch Set for October 1

Crew-13 is scheduled to launch no earlier than 11:10 a.m. EDT (1510 UTC) on Thursday, October 1, from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The crew will fly aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station, where they will join Expedition 75.

Following their arrival Saturday, the crew was greeted on the runway by representatives from NASA Kennedy and the agency’s Low Earth Orbit Program before speaking with on-site media. They then proceeded to the Astronaut Crew Quarters inside Kennedy’s Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building to continue quarantine and complete prelaunch preparations.

The international crew composition reflects the continued partnership between NASA, the Canadian Space Agency, and Roscosmos for space station operations. Kutryk’s participation underscores Canada’s ongoing role in human spaceflight through the CSA’s astronaut program.
